日本職棒總冠軍賽昨進行第2戰，地主樂天金鷹推出王牌投手田中將大先發，迎戰央聯冠軍讀賣巨人。田中展現實力，完投9局送出12次三振，只被敲3支安打，美中不足的是挨了寺內崇幸1發陽春全壘打、失1分。不過終場樂天仍以2比1勝出，田中完投勝，助樂天扳成1勝1敗，第3至5戰將移師巨人隊主場東京巨蛋。

樂天除了田中將大球威十足，打線也有發揮，共敲出9支安打，遠多於巨人。不過得分效率並不高，雙方0比0僵持到6局下，才靠銀次的適時安打攻下1分，7局下再添1分保險分。8局上，田中一時不慎，1顆失投滑球跑到紅中位置，被寺內崇幸揮出左外野陽春炮；不過田中立刻穩定下來，送出2K。

9局上，樂天雖僅領先1分仍未換救援投手，田中也順利解決3名打者守住勝利。他在季賽24勝0敗1救援，洋聯季後賽1勝1救援，昨天則是他在日職總冠軍賽的個人首勝，跨季連勝也已來到30場，繼續譜寫「田中神話」。
