【綜合報導】英國德文郡(Devon)一個湖泊旁，過去一周發現大批海鷗離奇溺斃，由於天氣悶熱，當地有大量的白蟻出沒，專家判斷這些海鷗是吃下太多白蟻後，胃內有過多蟻酸(Formic Acid，又稱甲酸)，使得海鷗好像喝醉酒般神智不清，最後掉進湖中，遇溺死亡。

德文郡民眾發現，平常在天空自由自在飛翔的海鷗，最近一反常態，飛得搖搖晃晃，好像喝醉酒般盲目撞向民宅和路過的汽車，許多更直接墜落湖中淹死。當局在湖中發現數百隻死海鷗後展開調查，但水質測試正常，水藻含量也低，化驗屍體更沒發現海鷗罹病。動物專家估計應該是天氣過熱，令白蟻大量繁殖，覓食中的海鷗將大量白蟻吃下肚後，體內蟻酸濃度過高，讓海鷗就像喝醉酒，變得神智不清，亂飛撞死或溺斃。
