消費電子產品缺貨原因很多。有網友說，蘋果(Apple Inc.)、小米等廠商慣用「缺貨」等飢餓式行銷手法來吸引死忠粉絲的購買熱情。當然，有時候廠商缺貨的確是因為生產過程中遇到瓶頸、人力不足或意外事件，也有可能是因為廠商心態保守、一開始不敢積極備貨。如果「缺貨」是廠商的行銷計畫的一環，時間應該不會太久、否則有可能產生反效果。

亞馬遜中國在12月10日開賣Kindle Paperwhite，官網在18日出現「需1-2週發貨、每位消費者限購三台」的字眼，數天後「需1-2週發貨」用語消失、但仍保留限購用詞；今(24)日，「需1-2週發貨、每位消費者限購三台」的情形又再度出現。

作為對照，蘋果中國的iPad Air目前各顏色/規格皆顯示「3-5個工作日」。第一代Kindle Paperwhite每位消費者目前最多可買24台(現貨供應)。Kindle Paperwhite、iPad Air，誰的長線營收爆發力、續航力較強？光從現有線索似乎是看不出來，只能從後續相關廠商披露的營收數據中一窺究竟。

《新浪科技》日前報導，亞馬遜中國副總裁白駒逸(Kurt Beidler)在受訪時指出，Kindle業務在中國已經超出預期。白駒逸表示，正因為Kindle業務發展順利，第二代Kindle Paperwhite E-Ink電子書閱讀器(見圖)才能很快在全球發布4個月後進入中國。亞馬遜是在今年6月開始在中國販售第一代Kindle Paperwhite。
