紐約水晶球倒數　市長首缺席

【國際中心／綜合外電報導】紐約時報廣場水晶球倒數，是美國跨年的重頭戲，1996年起現任紐約市長與特別嘉賓啟動水晶球降下儀式，今年卻是首次沒有紐約市長主持儀式。

將卸任的紐約市長彭博（Michael Bloomberg），過去11年來都出席倒數，今年卻決定與親友私下度過。新市長白思豪 （Bill de Blasio）又要到元旦凌晨12時01分在布魯克林家中宣誓，才正式上任，今年儀式將由嘉賓聯邦最高法院大法官索托馬約爾（Sonia Sotomayor）唱獨腳戲。

由32256枚LED燈組成的水晶球，在2013年最後60秒倒數下降到盡頭時，廣場上空亦會灑滿一噸由民眾寫上新年願望的花紙。

時報廣場跨年活動自2001年911襲擊後都實施嚴密保安，警方表示今年雖沒有具體恐襲威脅，保安也不會放鬆，進入廣場一帶街道的人都要接受搜查，部份警員亦會配備輻射計防範骯髒彈襲擊。
